Cibo DiVino
Cibo DiVino is a traditional Italian restaurant located on Waddington Road in St Albans. The airy interior and friendly, family-run atmosphere make it ideal for dates, family nights out and celebrations and the dining room – painted in warm peach and cream tones – is decorated with tiled floors, wooden shutters, and fresh flowers providing an elegant backdrop for the main event – the restaurant's hearty full-flavoured Italian fare. We love the food at Cibo DiVino, and favourite dishes include the insalata di calamari e lenticchie – chargrilled marinated baby squid with a lentil and rocket salad; the Fettucine al ragu di cinghiale e funghi – fettucine with wild boar and mushroom ragu; and the scaloppina di vitello al tartufo – veal escalope with asparagus and truffle butter.

Zizzi
Italian restaurant chain Zizzi opened the doors of its very first branch in London's Chiswick in 1999. Now there are over 100 branches, all decorated in an appealing contemporary style. Wood-fired ovens, open kitchens and modern interior design with locally influenced art features make for a vibrant atmosphere. As for the food, they serve up a variety of traditional Italian dishes including all the usual suspects: salads, antipasti, pasta, pizza, calzone, risotto as well as fish and meat mains and desserts. What Zizzi really pride themselves on is sourcing good quality ingredients; salads are dressed with white balsamic vinegar from Modena, for example, and offer Goddess Olives, a variety known for their firm flesh and nutty flavour. The modestly priced wine list is dominated by Italian wines, starting at £13.45 for a Montepulciano d'Abruzzo. Situated in the heart of the renowned market town, the St Albans branch of Zizzi has become a firm favourite with locals, and offers al fresco dining on their heated terrace.
